City Guide: Toronto

Once you’ve sorted out your 2 year travel insurance Canada IEC policy, you can start thinking about where you’d like to live and work while in the country - and it might well be that Toronto is the perfect place for you.

The provincial capital of Ontario can be found on the shores of Lake Ontario itself, the largest city in Canada, in fact. It’s widely acknowledged as being one of the best places to live in the world and, after a few weeks in the city, you’re sure to see why.

It’s a very cosmopolitan metropolis, with a huge amount going on - and a serious destination for anyone with a penchant for all things food-related. There are two Little Italys and three Chinatowns, so you know you won’t be going hungry any time soon!

Check out TripAdvisor for some hot tips on where to go to fill your bellies, with every single cuisine you could ever imagine more than covered in the city. Make sure you visit the likes of The Tilted Dog Pub & Kitchen for a burger like no other, Michael’s on Simcoe for an incredible creme brulee and Oyster Boy for every kind of seafood dish you could possibly imagine.

But, of course, it’s not just food that wows the crowds in Toronto. If you’re a huge sports fan, you won’t be disappointed, either. The city has a long history of sport and is home to lots of professional teams, including the Blue Jays, the Argonauts, the Raptors, Toronto FC and the Maple Leafs - covering almost every North American major professional league.

You’ll be kept very busy indeed, going to the many different fixtures that take place throughout the year, that’s for sure.

And those of you who prefer to actually participate in sports rather than spectate are more than catered for as well… take a trip to Hotel X Toronto, which has a huge gym, four tennis courts, nine squash courts and a spa - so you’ll never run out of activities to enjoy.

As for nightlife, you have little to worry about on this front either and you can party till you drop in Toronto, have no fear of that.

Time Out recently blogged about the best places to go on a night out in the city, with The Drake Hotel taking the top spot in the rundown, a local hub for events like DJ sets, concerts, slam poetry nights and more, with a lounge and rooftop bar for some serious R&R.

Or, if it’s craft beers you’re after, make your way to Get Well on Dundas West, which has an extensive list of beers to choose from, as well as some fancy bottled options to really round off your night to perfect.

This is just the tip of the Toronto iceberg and you’ll never tire of the city, even if you’re only there for two years. Have you been before? Get in touch with us today to tell us your favourite Toronto hotspots.
